BAPTISMS AND CONFIRMATIONS AT GRACE UMC

BAPTISM | Divine Grace By Water

The United Methodist tradition encourages the baptism of believers. At Grace UMC, our tradition recognizes the baptism of infants, children, and adults with the understanding that God acts in all of these situations. We cherish the sacrament of baptism and have created a special ceremony filled with meaning, love and congregational commitment to support each member baptized at Grace UMC.

Additionally, the United Methodist Church does not believe in re-baptizing a person who was baptized in a Christian church simply because “baptism is an act of God, and God does it right the first time. Our side of the covenant relationship with God will need re-commitment and reaffirmation, but God always remains faithful to the divine side.” – The United Methodist Church (www.umc.org)

If you or a member of your family are interested in being baptized contact Pastor Benny Oakes or Pastor Jamie Thompson

CONFIRMATION | A Profession Of Faith

Confirmation is the process of preparing a youth or young adult to make a profession of faith for him/herself. As stated in The Book of Resolutions of the United Methodist Church, “The basic meaning of confirmation is strengthening and making firm in Christian faith and life. The ritual action in confirmation is laying on of hands as a sign of God’s continuing gift of the grace from Pentecost.”

Confirmation classes or training always precede the confirmation ceremony. Confirmation classes are offered each spring at Grace and take place during the Sunday school hour for a 6-8 week period. The classes outline basic United Methodist theology and teach the confirmands details about the professions that they will make before the congregation.

Confirmation is not intended to be a requirement, rather an opportunity for a young person to make a public profession that he/she has accepted Jesus as his/her Lord and Savior.

If you or a member of your family are interested in being confirmed please contact Pastor Benny Oakes.
